Huawei Mate 9 Review
« on: December 01, 2016, 11:52:41 AM »
The Huawei Mate 9 is a great big-screened phablet 5.9in with excellent battery life (lasts about two days), camera and improved software that’s fast. The Mate 9 is the latest and greatest phablet that doesn’t look much different from its predecessor the Mate 8. It has metal back that is a mix of two colour-matched plastic windows at the top and bottom for the antennas. its front is pretty plain. On the front side, it has tiny bezels either side. At the bottom bar, it has the Huawei logo and the top bar containing the earpiece speaker and selfie camera. It’s one of the highest screen-to-body ratios of any smartphone available today and actually looks ginormous at 5.9in.

It’s 7.9mm thick and 78.9mm wide, curved aluminium back and well sliced edges make it a quite easier to hold it in hand. It is solidly built with heft and weighs 190g. it is a bigger-than-big smartphone and with 5.9in screen, it is surprisingly good for a 1080p screen LCD (373ppi). The Mate 9’s screen is just not as pin-sharp, but colour reproduction is good, so are the brightness and the viewing angles. It has new top of the line processor octa-core Huawei Kirin 960 0 with EMUI 5 and 4GB of RAM and takes two SIMs at the same time for two numbers.

Storage: 64GB + microSD card
Operating system: Android 7.0 with EMUI 5
Camera: 12MP RGB with OIS + 20MP monochrome rear cameras, 8MP front-facing camera
Connectivity: LTE, dual-sim, Wi-Fi, NFC, USB-C, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS
Dimensions: 156.9 x 78.9 x 7.9 mm

It’s nimble, specifically in launching apps. Probably it is faster than any other Android smartphone with impressive battery capacity.  On the moderate usage, it may last more than 36 hours without enabling any power saving modes. It has some aggressive power saving modes that are there to provide extended battery life if they are enabled. It just takes two hours to get full charged via the included fast charging USB-C power adapter. It has a good signal retention capability even at underground place.

It has one of the best Fingerprint scanners on its back side that is so quick that if you may unlock the device as quickly as you blink.  Despite being relevantly small in size in comparison to rivals, it almost works with 100% accuracy. The only thing you need to remember that don’t use greasy finger on it as it won’t be able to detect your identity.

The Mate 9 has the second generation of Huawei’s dual camera that is co-engineered with camera maker Leica. It has one 12-megapixel color camera with optical image stabilization and to collect more light information for the color camera in order to improve the amount of detail captured in the shots, there is one 20-megapixel monochrome sensor that you can use.

There are multiple camera modes to choose from, including manual mode or an easy to use “Pro” and some software-based refocusing tricks. But monochrome mode is the real fun that uses the monochrome camera on the back to capture sharp, black and white photos better than any color camera. Its 8-megapixel selfie camera is really good and you will like its soft focus and balance of detail for more flattering pictures.

There’s a super simple mode to use it without any complexity of apps all over a home screen. There are multiple customization options like navigation buttons, themes, enable gesture support, the color temperature, resize the size of items on the screen, etc. There is a blue light filter to save your eyes at night and helping you to sleep.  There are various other utilities like a shifting keyboard, a floating dock, and a mini-screen view to make it easier using it one handed.

The Huawei Mate 9 is a stunning looking smartphone that has curved back, and minimal body to screen ratio. This solid build is easier to hold onto more than you expact and costs €699 (£595). The Mate 9 is all set to fill the void lefat by Samsung’s top-end Note 7 phablet, as long as a stylus isn’t crucial for you. It is a phone with the big screen, great battery life, a good camera, snappy performance, excellent fingerprint scanner, expandable memory and dual-sim support. The Mate 9 comes with a screen protector pre-installed means that you can use without one stuck to the screen.
